In Memory

Cheryl Johnson (Barnhart)

Cheryl Renee (Johnson) Barnhart left this world on March 22, 2018 at 11:11 a.m., to receive her angel wings. She was surrounded in love by family and friends as she took her last breath. Cheryl passed away suddenly after a short battle with ovarian cancer.
Cheryl was born in Ellensburg, Washington on December 1, 1960, to Alfred and Estelle (Christopherson) Johnson. She attended Ellensburg High School where she graduated in 1979. She then attended Central Washington University obtaining her Associates Degree. On June 25, 1988, Cheryl married her soulmate, Daniel Wade Barnhart, and they settled into their life together in Ellensburg. Cheryl and Dan were foster parents to many children, adopting their 3 boys, Micah Daniel, Robert Wade and Matthew David. Cheryl and Dan remained active in the life of their foster son, Caleb, until the time of Cheryl's passing. Cheryl was an avid bowler, both in high school and in the years following graduation and a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church. She was an active member and officer of the Women of the Moose Ellensburg Chapter. She was the Ways and Means Chairman of the Washington State /Northern Idaho Moose Association, and her involvement in Mooseheart was a project that was very near and dear to her heart. Cheryl was always willing to lend a helping hand and volunteered in the Kittitas Valley in many capacities, including with the Ellensburg Rodeo. Cheryl treated every child she met as though they were her own, working in past years as a daycare provider and, more recently, in the kitchen at the Thorp School District, as well as working as a Para educator in the Special Education Program.
Cheryl is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Dan, and the greatest treasures of her life, Micah (Breanna), Robert, Matthew and Caleb. She is also survived by her grandson, Michael, and granddaughter, Evelyn; her parents, Alfred and Estelle Johnson; her brothers and their families, Mark and Jennifer Johnson, their boys, Ethan and Tye; and Paul and Julie Johnson, and their children, Justin, Cassie and Kiley. Cheryl is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Randy and Malina Christopherson; her uncle, Dale Christopherson; and aunt, Faith Youngberg, as well as her paternal grandparents, August and Lucy Johnson; her aunt and uncle, Wayne and Cassie Johnson; and her uncle, Floyd Johnson.
A celebration of Cheryl's precious life will be held on Friday, April 6 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 512 N. Ruby Street, Ellensburg, with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Cheryl's honor to Hospice Friends or Mooseheart, in care of Brookside Funeral Home, 101 E 2nd Ave., Ellensburg. For those individuals looking for additional ways to help the family, a GoFundMe page has been set up in Cheryl's memory to assist with final expenses.
